The Northern Will County Special Recreation Association (NWCSRA) recently provided an update to the Romeoville Village Board about their ongoing initiatives. The organization, which has been active since 1976, focuses on serving individuals with special needs. Founded by Romeoville resident Georgia Wilson, NWCSRA offers diverse programs including athletics, day camps, sensory environments, and specific activities for both youth and adults. These initiatives are designed to help participants build self-esteem, improve independence, and foster community connections through shared experiences.
Mayor Noak expressed appreciation for the impact of the NWCSRA programs. "Whenever I see the people enrolled in the SRA programs, they’re always smiling," he noted, highlighting the positive atmosphere created by NWCSRA during various activities. Whether participating in events like an annual trunk-or-treat or engaging in basketball games against Village staff, participants appear to enjoy themselves, demonstrating the dedication and effort of NWCSRA staff in enriching lives.
NWCSRA functions as a collaborative effort between the Village of Romeoville and the park districts of Bolingbrook, Lockport Township, and Plainfield. The recent presentation emphasized NWCSRA's role and contribution to the community. More information about their activities can be found on their website at nwcsra.org.
