The Village of Romeoville has secured nearly $6 million in grants from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The funding, provided through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program, will support two key trail and corridor improvement projects.

The first initiative involves a 1.8-mile multi-use path that will link the Prairie Bluff Preserve to Route 53 along Renwick Road. This new path will also connect with existing paths on Renwick Road and those extending north on Pinnacle Drive.

The second project focuses on Route 53 and includes landscape beautification, medians, street lighting in the Lewis University section of the corridor, and a multi-use path from Renwick Road to Taylor Road. This development aims to connect Lewis University with Romeoville High School.

These projects are designed to integrate with existing trails, a planned path across the 9th Street Bridge, and a connection to Lewis University's paths, forming an extensive network for pedestrian access throughout Romeoville and beyond.

Mayor Noak expressed appreciation for the grants: “We have created a number of multi-use paths over the last few years and this is a huge piece of the puzzle in making Romeoville and the whole region more pedestrian friendly.” He acknowledged support from State Representative Avelar, State Senator Ventura, Lockport Township Park District, City of Lockport, and Lewis University.

State Representative Dagmara “Dee” Avelar highlighted the significance of these developments: “This investment brings critical infrastructure improvements to Romeoville, enhancing safety and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists alike.”

While completion is still some time away, with construction anticipated to begin in 2027 following final plan preparations next year, residents are encouraged to explore Romeoville’s current 40 miles of paths.
