The Public Safety Academy, a collaborative initiative by the Romeoville Police, Fire, and Emergency Management Agency, recently celebrated its first graduation ceremony during the Village Board Meeting. This 11-week program provided residents with practical experience in using tools and techniques employed by first responder agencies. Participants engaged in activities such as handling fire hoses, operating drones, firing tasers, and practicing jiu-jitsu.
“People appreciate our first responders, but I think when they go through the same training and use the same tools themselves, they come to appreciate them even more,” said Mayor Noak. “Not only that, but now this graduating class has a better understanding of how and why certain techniques are used.”
The academy is available annually to Romeoville residents each spring. Attendance is free; however, registration is necessary due to limited class sizes.
