Providence Catholic High School has announced that 50 students from its Class of 2026 have been recognized as Illinois State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). This group represents 30 percent of the graduating class.

Principal Paul Houston commented on the recognition, stating, “Each year, our students demonstrate exceptional commitment to scholarship and leadership. Being named an Illinois State Scholar is a remarkable achievement that reflects impressive academic effort along with character, resilience, and dedication to growth. We are tremendously proud of these 50 students. They set a powerful example for our school community, and we look forward to all they will accomplish beyond Providence Catholic.”

The Illinois State Scholar program honors top-performing students across the state based on their sustained academic achievement. The program has been in place since 1958, and recipients are selected for their academic performance as well as qualities such as leadership and integrity.

Ms. Huda Hamdan, Director of Counseling at Providence Catholic, said, “Providence Catholic’s strong academic foundation, dedicated faculty, and supportive learning environment help prepare students for success at the next level. The number of Illinois State Scholars we celebrate each year reflects the depth of that preparation and the commitment our students bring to their studies.”

The list of honored students includes individuals from various communities such as New Lenox, Lockport, Palos Hills, Joliet, Frankfort, Homer Glen, Mokena, Tinley Park, Lemont, Orland Park, Shorewood, Minooka, Crest Hill, and Monee.
